Chinese schools deny link to Google attacks
According to a recent investigation into the Google attack, two schools in China were implicated. In response to the allegations the schools have publicly denied any connection to the online attacks.
An in-depth investigation into the recent attacks on Google and several U.S. based corporations have yielded interesting information as to the originating location. Recently the New York Times ran a story implicating two schools in China as the origination point for the Google attacks.
According to Cnet, China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported that a representative of the university in question called the accusations “baseless.” The school’s own investigation indicates that there is no evidence that the online attacks originated from the school computers.
The New York Times also reported that the investigation linked the attacks to a specific computer science class taught by a Ukrainian. A Chinese official speaking on behalf for one of the schools refuted this claim by stating that the school does not have any foreign staff.
It seems like there is no definitive evidence where the attack actually originated. It could be plausible that the hackers used the schools as a relay point to the target destination.
