Spammers target Google Buzz already
Its only been a little less than two weeks since Google’s social networking experiment, Buzz was released. However, Buzz is already being targeted by spammers fairly aggressively.
According to PC World, spammers began focusing on Google Buzz only a few days after its launch. Websense, Inc., a security company, issued an alert on Google Buzz last week reporting the first attack. The first wave of spam leveraged smoking as the theme.
According to Websense, security analysts did not anticipate that spammers would move as quickly as they did.
In the alert Websense stated:
When Twitter was launched, it took a while before it was used to send spam and other malicious messages. In this case, it only took two days. It’s clear that the bad guys have learned from their experience using social networks to distribute these type of messages.
After a rocky launch and addressing some privacy concerns, it looks like Google Buzz may have to contend with spam attacks as well. The speed at which spammers have targeted the social networking service is concerning further adding to the Google’s list of headaches.
