Another day, another Twitter phishing scam – This you???? No, definitely not
Being a Twitter user may be fun but it also comes with a certain amount of danger, as the social network/micro-blogging service is a magnet for phishing scams. The ‘This you????’ scam is the second this week, following closely behind the ‘Lol’ scam from a couple of days ago.
On Monday, Twitter was hit by the ‘Lol’ scam in a big way, with a vast number of users caught by the phishing scam. Now comes news, via Sophos, of a new Twitter scam, which works in exactly the same way. Except the messages sent to potential victims are worded differently, all beginning with ‘This you????’ and followed by a link to an external site which is intended to harvest passwords.
As always, my advice is to err on the side of caution on social networks, especially Twitter where the liberal use of URL shorteners means anyone can become a victim, no matter how wary. And if you do end up getting caught out then change your Twitter password and change your passwords on any other service linked to Twitter.
