Sony plans handheld, mobile future with Playstation smartphone, iPad-style tablet

Sony plans handheld, mobile future with Playstation smartphone, iPad-style tabletSome companies lead, others follow. Sony has been an innovator in the past but now looks to have become a follower. But can this strategy really turn things around for the Japanese company?

According to the Wall Street Journal, Sony is readying to launch a bigger assault on the mobile market with two new products lined up and ready to go. One will be the long-rumored Playstation phone, which will essentially be a new smartphone capable of downloading and playing Playstation games. The other will be a tablet device combining a netbook, and e-book reader, and gaming functionality. So the former will go head-to-head with the Apple iPhone, the latter with the iPad. Apple leads, Sony follows.

Sony issued a statement saying:

As already announced, Sony and Sony Ericsson have been strengthening their collaboration in the networked mobile space. However, it is not our strategy to discuss future products or business plans before we make a formal announcement. Any media report that suggests details of the product or business is based on speculation.

Which is a long-winded way of saying, “No comment.”

This is an obvious direction for Sony to go in, especially with the Playstation brand and back catalog providing the gaming pedigree needed for both fledgling products. Let’s just hope the end results are more impressive than the Sony Dash.

Umm dash is destined to fail? The hell? Well, I will use your line here then: I cannot work out how on earth that you can say such nonsense and get away with it that easy.

Do me a favor, read the replies to this engadget article and ask yourself again: will it really fail?

There are consumers and they spoke. Obivously, there are others in the other articles. Oh and it multitasks up to 7apps, runs flash and netflix, but need not worry about apple, because when apple add these things later, it will be their invention right?
    -_-

As for apple leading and Sony following comment, I have this:

Now, I may have came off as rude, but it is because this is not the first time I see stuff this way, and really without much if not at all, reasoning and thought Not professional.

I want to hear what you have to say instead of just ignoring me.
