Apple begins taking iPad pre-orders, limits quantities

Apple begins taking iPad preorders, limits quantitiesApple has finally begun taking pre-orders for the long-awaited iPad tablet, but don’t get too excited if you thought you were going to give your entire sales team one.

Last week Apple announced the launch date of the iPad, as well as the date it would begin accepting orders.  Well, the time finally arrived this morning, and while orders are being accepted for both the Wi-Fi-only and W-iFi with 3G models, you are limited to only two iPads.  While for the vast majority of people out there this won’t be an issue, it may be disheartening to businesses out there that are hoping to equip their sales forces with them, something that has been much discusses since the device was announced.

The move is now wholly unexpected as the chances of Apple having enough of these at launch was fairly slim.  Being one of the most rumored gadgets for years, and the current hottest point of discussion on tech blogs, demand was sure to be high no matter how many Apple produced.

Delivery for the Wi-Fi version — the 3G model will be delayed a few weeks — will be April 3.  If Saturday delivery is not available in your part of the United States, you will receive it on April 5.  You can also reserve an iPad for in-store pick-up at an Apple Store.  The window for picking it up is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 3.  Why they are not allowing you to have all day is unknown, but most of them will probably be picked up by 9:05 a.m. anyway.

As was announced back at the unveiling, pricing starts at $499 for a 16 GB Wi-Fi version, and goes up from there.
