Facebook beats Google for traffic
Facebook is rapidly taking over the world. And according to the latest traffic statistics from Hitwise, the social networking site is now more popular than Google in the United States. Is there any stopping Mark Zuckerberg and company?
Last year, Facebook raced past the 300 million users milestone. That’s 300 million people who have signed up for a Facebook account. Of course, some don’t ever do anything with their accounts, or sign in so irregularly that they may as well not bother. But others spend their whole days on the site; writing status updates, uploading photos of themselves, sharing links with friends. And it’s these users who have pushed Facebook beyond even Google in terms of traffic.
Hitwise is, of course, just one source of Web analytics, and the first to show Facebook overtaking Google. ComScore still ranks Facebook behind Google, Yahoo and Microsoft. But for how long?
I certainly cannot see Facebook’s incredible growth being stopped by anything or anyone: it’s like a juggernaut bulldozing its way through the competition one by one. You just know Zuckerberg is going to be president one day.
