Guitar Hero gets government recognition
Next time you see somebody checking out that Guitar Hero or Rock Bank box, take a closer look. If you’re in Britain, it could be a government official.
It’s just been announced that video games with accessories will now be counted towards official inflation figures in the country. The Consumer Price Index is based around a “basket” of goods which are most commonly bought and is frequently updated to reflect changing tastes.
Blu-ray also appears on the list for the first time, with prices of both players and discs now being tracked. That’s a sign the format has become established in the country.
While Blu-ray accessory-based games have been added (accessory-free games were already on the list), disposable cameras have been dropped. That’s because sales have slumped since both digital cameras and cameraphones became more widely available.
The list includes many tech products plus services such as online DVD rental and repair charges for broken equipment.
