Twitter: No sellout for at least two years
It’s official, folks, Twitter will not be selling out for at least the next two years. At least according to Twitter CEO Evan Williams. And he would surely know.
It looked for a time as though Twitter would be acquired by a bigger entity. Microsoft, Google, and Facebook have all been mentioned as being interested in buying the social networking site. But it’s held firm so far, resisting the lure of a fast and easy payday. And that stance isn’t going to change for at least the next two years.
According to Mashable, Williams promised to answer 10 tweeted questions after many people came away disappointed with the easy questioning he received during his keynote interview at SXSWi. One Twitter user cut right to the chase and asked, “Will Twitter be sold or merged in the next 2 years?” Williams responded with a simple “No.”
Does this mean other companies will simply stop targeting Twitter for acquisition? No, of course not. But unless Williams wants to be branded a liar for the rest of his life, he needs to turn down any offers, no matter how tempting they may be, that come his way until at least 2012.
