Rumor: April 10 to be Google’s last day in China
If the rumors are to be believed, Google may finally be putting an end to the “will they/won’t they” that has been going on in regards to the search engine pulling operations out of China.
For months now Google has been threatening to pull out of China over concerns of hacking and if it should continue to give in to that country’s desires for Web content to be censored. Now, according to China Business News (via Bloomberg), a pullout date of April 10 has begun to circulate. Google has not confirmed the date at this time.
Peter Lui, formerly the company’s financial controller for the Asia Pacific region, told Bloombergs that the public manner in which Google has handled this has probably banished the company from the country for good. “There is no way Google can ever come back,” Mr. Lui said.
The same source that claimed April 10 is the pullout date said that they expected an announcement to be made on March 22.
