Choose Your Own Adventure on Twitter
If you have even a clue what Choose Your Own Adventure refers to then you need to read this article before skipping off to Twitter to relive your childhood.
Those of a certain age will hopefully remember the Choose Your Own Adventure children’s books from the 1980s and 1990s. They were essentially books for kids whose parents couldn’t afford to buy them one of the early games consoles or home PCs. The books, of which there are many, put the reader in charge of the story, with decisions made determining which page was turned to, and consequently the outcome of the tale.
Jonah Peretti (co-founder of BuzzFeed) has now brought the Choose Your Own Adventure series bang up to date by transposing it to Twitter. Choices are given by descriptive bit.ly links, and the player affects the outcome of the story in the same way as kids have been doing with the books for the last 30-odd years.
OK, so you’ll probably get bored very quickly, but it’s nice to see Twitter being used in an entertaining and innovative way. And it helps oldies like myself feel a little younger. Which can’t be bad.
