Gawker to sue police over iPhone 4G leak raid?

April 28, 2010

Well, here’s a turn up for the books. Gawker Media, owner of Gizmodo, the tech blog which bought the iPhone 4G and leaked it all across its pages, could sue police over the raid on editor Jason Chen’s home.

Gizmodo editor Jason Chen returned home last Friday night to find police in his home confiscating computers and other devices as part of the ongoing investigation into the iPhone 4G leak. Gawker Media immediately claimed the raid and seizure of equipment unfair, violating Chen’s rights as a journalist under section 1524 of the California Penal Code.

Now, according to CNET, Gawker Media could be prepared to issue a lawsuit over the raid as “search is not the appropriate method in this situation.”

So let me get this right. You purchase a potentially stolen prototype Apple product from a guy who “found” it in a bar, dissect it in a series of blog posts, make a ton of money from the page views, and then cry foul when police launch an investigation? Because that makes perfect sense.
