School principal wants to ban Facebook
Is Facebook evil? The work of the devil? Bad for everyone who uses it? It must be all these things, or why would a school principal in New Jersey be trying to ban his students from using it.
OK, so maybe ban is a strong word but, according to CBS News, Anthony Orsini, principal at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Ridgewood, NJ, is urging parents to cut their kids off all social networking sites.
Orsini recently sent out a letter to all parents saying:
Please do the following: sit down with your child (and they are just children still) and tell them that they are not allowed to be a member of any social networking site. Today!
There is absolutely no reason for any middle school student to be a part of a social networking site! Let me repeat that – there is absolutely, positively no reason for any middle school student to be a part of a social networking site! None.
What could possibly invoke such a response from a man who holds such a responsible position? His intentions seem to be pure, as he thinks social networking sites such as Facebook are making kids’ lives harder due to cyber-bullying. But is banning kids from these sites the way to fix the problem?
Surely a better solution would be to encourage children to be more respectful to each other, and punish bullying more severely in whatever form it manifests itself.

Dear SOMEONE, This is an issue reasonable adultse and students could disagree about. If you have critism of the principal’S point of view you should express it and not resort to “name calling.” “Name Calling” might be one of the reason the pincipal does not wanting students on Facebook. Explain why you think a ban is a bad idea.
