Other services stepping in to save free Ning accountsNing has finally announced its pricing plans in its efforts to move away from the free accounts it has offered since its inception. While there is still some annoyance at paying at all, the company did seem to take most scenarios into account.

It was announced last month that Ning, the white label social networking company, would cut its offering of free accounts.  In an effort to cut expenses, the company had analyzed that 75 percent of its traffic, and 80 percent of its revenue, came from social networks that paid to be on the site already, so it would cut off its free account option.

The new plans were announced today on the company blog, and clock in at $2.95 a month, $19.95 for additional features and $49.95 a month with discounts if you pay for 12 months at a time.  You can see the differences between the plans on the company’s plan comparison page.

Some of the most important news in the announcement was that a major educational publisher had signed a deal with Ning to keep the network’s educators in K – 12 classrooms use for their students free.  More details on this plan will be announced later.
