ClearWire may switch from WiMax to LTE
Even though most consumers aren’t even aware of it, a format war has been going on for the future of wireless broadband, and a winner may have just been declared.
According to GigaOm, ClearWire has announced that some sort of change has been made in its agreement with key investor Intel, but the company wouldn’t say exactly what that was. Currently the company is in an exclusive deal with Intel to use its WiMax technology exclusively through November 2011 with 30-days notice of termination.
It is being assumed that ClearWire will be switching over to the more popular LTE technology for its future 4G needs. This will require not a lot of work on work on the company’s part, but it will require anyone with a 4G device currently serviced by Sprint, such as the OverDrive device, will need to switch over to a new version of their device.
No word was given will be when an announcement will be made, but it should be fairly soon.
