Nintendo sees Apple as “enemy of the future”
It seems that Nintendo has a new enemy, and this time it isn’t a game manufacturer.
According to the Times, Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, recently told top executives at the company that Apple was its “enemy of the future” while discussing the company’s lagging sales in the first quarter of this year. The company feels that it has already defeated Sony when its popular Wii console sold twice the number of the Playstation 3 this past Christmas, but with declining profits in the first quarter, it feels Apple is to blame.
Sales of the Wii and DS handhels were down 21 percent this past quarter, and profits dropped from $3.03 billion to $2.48 billion. The gamers that Nintendo has worked so hard to convert – teenage girls and men aged 30 to 40 – recently said in a survey they would rather carry around an iPhone as opposed to a DS, so Nintendo is looking to do something to win those customers back.
Could we see a Nintendo phone in the future?
