Sprint HTC Hero finally gets updated to Android 2.1
After what seems like an eternity, the Sprint HTC Hero is finally updating to Android 2.1 Eclair.
Despite having released as Android 2.0 back in October 2009, and an eventual update to 2.1, Sprint users who have the HTC Hero phone have had an excruciatingly long wait to receive the update. Partly because of the Sense UI (User Interface) that HTC places over the operating system, and partly because Sprint does extensive testing before it will release an update. Considering the phone released on Oct. 11, 2009, the wait was all that much more painful as the releases were so close together.
Unfortunately it looks like owners of Hero handsets in Europe still don’t have the update, and there is no word on when they may see it.
Sprint customers in the United States can head over to Sprint Support to learn what they need to do to install the new operating system, but be warned the download site is being slammed hard in these early hours.

Does anybody know which type of video files are supported? I remember the Intuition only might dl 3gp utilizing opera mini. I downloaded the twist ap, perhaps that is the issue? How can I watch videos from websites aside from youtube? Which file varieties? Often I’m given the option of 3gp or mpeg4. Cannot get both to work. Thank you on your time! Damn I wish I used to be eligible for the upgrade to EVO!

Thanks for the good article, I’m very excited. I’ve had my phone for just over a month now and am in point of fact enjoying all the unfastened apps from the android marketplace, having the ability to have the web and navigation at my fingertips all of the time. The one less than concept characteristic is the picture/video text messages, as they don’t seem to be downloading properly.
