Women more likely to spy on partners’ use of the Web, email, mobile texts

May 24, 2010

There’s a theory that men are generally better with technology than women are. I’m not sure I agree with that, but there you have it. However, when it comes to spying on their partners, women are much more adept than their menfolk. And more likely to turn PI in the first place.

That is, at least, according to a survey of 920 middle-aged British couples by the London School of Economics Nottingham Trent University.

The survey found that 14 percent of wives read their husband’s emails, 13 percent read their text messages, and 10 percent check Web browsing histories. This compares with 8 percent of hubbies who check emails, and 7 percent who check texts and browsing habits.

The suggestion is that women are more adept with technology when there is something at stake. In this case, their relationship. But could it not just indicate that women are more suspicious by nature than men? Or that men are more likely to be up to something which requires some form of spying by their partner?
