The Hurt Locker piracy lawsuits begin
If you downloaded The Hurt Locker online then you could be about to get a nasty letter through your door.
Earlier this month The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Voltage Pictures, the production company behind The Hurt Locker, was gearing up to sue the ass off anyone it suspected of illegally downloading the Oscar-winning movie from a file-sharing website. And so it has come to pass, with 5,000 unlucky individuals now officially accused of the criminal act.
This isn’t the tens of thousands of lawsuits that were predicted, but this first 5,000 could just be the opening salvo, with more to follow. The complaint, via Techdirt, suggests that the distribution of even one unlawful copy invariably damages the whole movie industry. Strange then that 2009 saw that same industry pull in record box office takings. Something doesn’t quite add up.
I guess the point of this lawsuit is to scare people into not downloading movies from the Internet. And not just the 5,000 people actually sued for The Hurt Locker, but anyone who hears about the case too. Which is a tad hopeful, to say the least. Most will carry on regardless.

For this reason many innocent people could be harassed. So “The Hurt Locker” team should look into this matter.

This is legal extortion. Actually, the “legal” bit is questionable.
I’ll write a scathing review on Amazon to warn people from funding this company in the future.
