WordPress 3.0 ‘Thelonius’ arrives

June 18, 2010

For the owners and writers of millions of blogs, both big and small, WordPress has become the key to building and managing multiple sites. Which makes the release of WordPress 3.0 big news indeed.

WordPress 3.0, codenamed Thelonius, is now available to download or upgrade to. WordPress 3.0 introduces several major new features, a new lighter interface, a new default theme called Twenty Ten, new APIs to increase customization options, and the important bug fixes which make the blogging platform more stable and secure.

All in all, Thelonius brings 1,217 changes over the previous release, some of which are discussed in the following video.

WordPress 3.0 has taken six months to build, with 218 people contributing their time, ideas, and ability to make it a reality.

Enjoy WordPress 3.0 but don’t hold your breath for 3.1, as it’s not going to be coming for a while. The developers have decided to take three months off from working on a new version in order to refocus and regroup. In the end though, this should make future versions of WordPress even better, and make each new release more of a leap in quality.
