Chatroulette v2.0 still full of smut
After being offline for a week, Chatroulette has relaunched. The big (but not the only) problem is that the smut remains in place. Does this spell the end of Chatroulette for good?
Chatroulette was a lot of fun when it first launched. The idea of connecting randomly with strangers for video and text chats was original and fun. And the ease of using the site, with no logins or software to download meant Chatroulette spread like the proverbial wildfire.
However, once the site became popular thanks to word-of-mouth the site got taken over by people looking for free sex chats. So the number of male members on display increased to the point that those who didn’t want to see that sort of thing abandoned the site as quickly as they’d embraced it.
Chatroulette founder Andrey Ternovskiy, a Russian teenager who suddenly found himself under pressure to clean up the site, promised to do just that.
And so early last week Chatroulette went offline with a message indicating the new site, version 2.0, would be back in a matter of hours. A week later and the revised site came back online again. Not that you can really tell the difference.
If anything, the site is more bare bones than it was before. While new features such as volume controls, drop down menus, and the ability to resize chat windows seem unnecessary, especially as the big problem still hasn’t been addressed.
That big problem is still the amount of lewd and crude behavior all across the site. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to click the ‘Next’ button more than a few times without encountering some naked flesh.
And it’s that which needs to be shuttered or at least moved to one side if Chatroulette is going to survive and grow. Certainly the chances of securing advertisers on the site are remote until a big clean up is enacted. V3.0 anyone?

I think in our world you can change between freedom / easiness and an ideal world you want to have.
Lets explain this a little bit: Why is/was Chatroulette successfull? It is easy and without any regulation.
When you start to avoid naked flesh you have to register the persons who want to talk, you have to create rules and collect data of the people. You have to describe what is offensive and what not. If you start with that you end at netmeeting or icq.
Believe me, I am a little bit older, they started the same way as chats with nearly no regulation.
The only thing I would change in V3.0 is that you can click on a checkbox “I dont like naked flesh”. If you click that you should be in a seperate roulette where only non sex content will be presented.
Anything other will destroy the feeling of Chatroulette. And yes, I also dont like to see everywhere dicks from mens but I can avoid that then.
And at last, if you want to have such a nice Chatroulette without sex just create one.

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is great blog. An excellent read. I will definitely be back.
