Study shows Netflix tops Internet traffic during peak hours
While the battle for living room supremacy may be going on between various services, Netflix has been making great strides. According to a recent study, Netflix has come out on top with the highest percentage of traffic during peak hours.
According to Read Write Web, a recent study showed that Netflix now accounts for 20 percent of the peak Internet traffic volumes in the U.S. This is a significant amount of traffic when considering its all to one source.
Currently Netflix has approximately 16 million subscribers that can access streaming video via various devices such as the PS3, Xbox 360 and Roku player. The company has been contemplating shift more of its focus to delivering streaming content, moving away from the traditional movies by mail model.
Interestingly enough, when it comes to broadband usage the U.S. ranks fairly low compared to Asia. Americans spend approximately 3 hours with an active connection to the Internet while all of Asia spends 5.5 hours on average. With other streaming services such as Hulu taking center stage, an all out war between various platforms may ensue.
