Sesame Street’s YouTube hit by porn attack

Sesame Street's YouTube hit by porn attackVisitors to Sesame Street’s YouTube page were in for a shock yesterday. That wasn’t Elmo… and that wasn’t tickling.

Yep, the world’s second-favorite kiddie show about a street (behind Pigeon Street) became host to some unconventional action. Let’s just say it was brought to you by the numbers 6 and 9, and the letters X, X and X.

According to security commentator Graham Cluley, the inappropriate content was online for about 20 minutes, after which the entire account was suspended. It’s still offline, presumably to clear up after a local resident lost his cookies. (Forgetful Jones was the first to get over the shock and now can’t work work out what all the fuss was about.)

The hackers also changed the profile to read:

WHO DOESN’T LOVE PORN KIDS? RIGHT! EVERYONE LOVES IT! IM ******* AND MY PARTNER ************ ARE HERE TO BRING YOU MANY NICE CONTENT! PLEASE DON’T LET SESAME STREET TO GET THIS ACCOUNT BACK KIDS :( PLEASE…LET ME AND ************ HAVE IT AND WE GONNA MAKE ALL THE AMERICA HAPPY!

We’ve asterisked-out two YouTube user names as it’s almost certain they were not involved in the attack: unless it’s a cunning double-bluff, including your own name when carrying out such a crime would be an error that would make even a pre-schooler shake their head.

Indeed, one of the YouTubers named has vigorously denied the attack and even changed the default video on their account to one explaining a lack of involvement.

This isnt the first such attack. In 2009, the 4chan community declared a Porn Day and flooded the site with mature videos, some of which had the offending material cut together with more family-friendly fare to make it harder to automatically track down and remove. And last year pranksters exploited a security bug to automatically forward visitors to Justin Bieber videos to video content not exactly aimed at his target audience.
