A teenage boy, who stole his father’s credit card, bought an Xbox 360 games console, booked a Texas motel with his friends, hired two prostitutes, with whom he then played Halo, has been apprehended by Texas police and convicted of fraud.

A new bill dubbed as “Amazon Tax” has just been approved by New York Legislators and is now awaiting the approval of New York governor David Patterson. The bill if signed into a New York law will require online retailers, such as Amazon, to collect sales taxes on purchase shipped to New York. In effect, the bill would end New Yorkers’ tax-free online shopping activities.

Nokia and the University of Cambridge have shown a concept mobile device at the ongoing “Design and the Elastic Mind” exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The concept device, dubbed “the morph”, which would be built using nanotechnology, could define the mobile device of the future if Nokia manages to turn it into reality some day.

The Australia Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has dropped the case it filed against Google’s Irish and Australian subsidiaries last month. But the Australian watchdog has vowed to pursue the case against the Google parent company and the Trading Post for misleading users about sponsored links.

Mobile phone giant Nokia and car maker Renault have reached an agreement for a co-branded Renault Twingo Nokia car equipped with Nokia navigation system and hands-free mobile phones.
Nokia’s spokesperson Eija-Riitta Huovinen told Reuters that the company believes the car navigation industry is booming and Nokia wants to position itself in that industry.

It looks like Sony has beaten Amazon in the race to launch a new digital book reader with the launch of an updated version of the Sony Reader Digital Book. Amazon is rumored to be developing its own electronic book reader, the Amazon Kindle.

Contradicting norms and traditional music industry standards, top British band Radiohead will release its new album “In Rainbows” in digital-only format. Radiohead fans will only be able to access the new album from the band’s official website and download the complete album for a fee that they themselves will set.

Skype co-founder and CEO, Niklas Zennstrom, has announced that he is stepping down from office. Zennstrom will become a non-executive chairman of the Skype Board of Directors.
Immediately after the announcement, Skype’s mother company, Ebay which bought Skype in 2005, announced some changes of its own. Ebay’s Chief Strategy Officer, Michael van Swaaij, will temporarily replace Zennstrom at the helm of Skype until a replacement is found. eBay with the help of Russell Reynolds Associates is currently conducting a search for Zennstrom’s successor.
