Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Bow Wow — all performing “artists” with over the top star power. But have you ever wondered where the hidden talent is? It’s all over the Internet, and for the first time since the record labels took power from the talented musicians who lack the proper image, the real artists are getting heard…on the Internet.

Research in Motion (RIM) has been a beehive of activity as of late, releasing a veritable cornucopia of handsets to appeal to a wide range of consumers with different needs. Its two latest offerings, the Bold and the Storm, hold top spots on two competing networks and are vastly different: how do you choose?

Your plane just crashed, and you can feel the heat from the fire roaring outside the walls of your plane on your skin. Once you manage to escape your tin can of a cremation chamber, your first reaction is to tweet your experience on Twitter. Perfectly normal, no?

T-Mobile’s flagship device, the G1, has been for the most part a great success. Widespread adoption and new customers to T-Mobile’s 3G high-speed data network have brought the customer-oriented GSM network great success. But the G1 isn’t perfect, and there is an unsettling rumor that an updated Google phone could be on its way as soon as January … would T-Mobile really alienate it’s newly-happy G1 users by releasing an update so soon?

YouTube is one of the Internet’s greatest cooperative canvasses of expression. But there are those that feel like each person’s right to individual expression, whether that be voiced in a video, song or comment, should be limited to protect those who, for lack of a better explanation, must be incapable of coming into contact with others without having their own personal sensitivities offended.

Everyone’s heard it: if you’re applying for a job today (and most everyone seems to be), you’d best be careful what you put up on your Facebook profile, lest your personal photos of you and your frat buddies doing keg stands keep employers from considering you a serious and mature potential employee. Well, if you actually get that desired job, there’s a good chance your company might kindly ask you to have access to all of your friends personal information too…you know, because if you’re good people, they must be too, right?

Microsoft has been steadily plugging away at its little Zune media player for some time now, and critics and consumers alike have wondered when or if Microsoft intended to make the Zune directly competitive to the iPhone by making it a fully-functional mobile handset. Finally, it looks like Microsoft might take the big leap of creating a media mobile phone out of the Zune, and if it is, the software giant-turned hardware designer could be showing a Zune phone as early as January.

Apple’s iPhone and the HTC/T-Mobile/Google G1 have arguably the closest things to full web-browsing mobile phones. Unfortunately, having one’s cake and eating it too isn’t an option for users of such phones, as Google has announced the roll-out of full search ads for full mobile browsers just today.

The wonderful thing about technology today is that it changes quickly and fluidly, faster than even the savviest early adopters can keep up with. But alongside the positive changes come many advancements that are simply money-making gimmicks, which lose support almost as quickly as they gain it. DVDs which allow viewers to communicate real-time with fellow viewers as they watch the same film might fall into the latter category.

Google is to job seekers is as Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory is to…well…anybody. Perks out the wazzoo and a work environment bordering on utopia have made many wish they could be Oompa Loompas for the Web giant. But even Google can’t avoid the effects of the U.S. economic recession, and it seems that the chocolate won’t be flowing quite as freely as it once did.

T-Mobile launched its newest flagship device, the HTC-built G1, back in October to a warm reception by customers and critics. All those who adopted the device early might be more than a little angered to hear that UK consumers will be given G1s free of charge, excluding the monthly service plans, due to the onslaught of new competitive devices to the market.

The iPhone, even amidst a furious onslaught of competitor smartphones, has for the most part retained its title as the leader in the smart phone or touchscreen market. The reason for this is that many competitors have managed to nail the replication of or improvement on one of the iPhone’s many strengths, but have fallen short of the well-rounded appeal of the iPhone. Somebody should have told Nokia that it’s simply unfair to storm the scene and blow away the iPhone all at once.

Paypal, the muscle behind the online auction giant eBay, has been one of the foremost means of transferring funds from one person to another over the Internet. Now Paypal is branching out from the normal fare and taking on youth accounts in a manner that should appeal to all the lazy parents looking to waste piles of money on their greedy youths.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin is backing a proposal to deliver free Internet service to all Americans on a segment of airwave frequencies to be auctioned off in the near future. The only catch is that participants will be restricted from accessing pornographic or content deemed inappropriate for children … and your internet could quite possibly be slower than your grandmother’s old-school dialup connection.

Grenades and assault rifles have long been the tools of death and destruction for terrorists. But killing alone does not allow terrorists to truly gauge the fallout after an attack, and that is precisely why a new weapon, one of deadly intelligence capabilities, was employed in a recent attack: the Blackberry.

Torrenting, or “sharing,” files on the internet is more commonplace today than it has been ever before; those who take part in torrents are aware of the legal implications of downloading movies, music and applications on the sly. It’s something else entirely when people who don’t even use the Internet are accused of downloading illegally, and not just downloading family movies like Kung Fu Panda…try hardcore gay porn titles.

Wake up like normal and walk away empty handed; wake up early and get a shot at the big time; don’t go to bed…and you have a fighting chance. Black Friday electronics and entertainment shopping isn’t for the faint of heart, and this year was particularly gritty and violent.
