Sony and Netflix recently announced that Netflix’s streaming Watch Instantly service would be coming to the PS3. The service is now here as Netflix is sending out discs to those interested in accessing the company’s instant streaming service. The service can be accessed for free on the PS3 with the Netflix disc and plan.

With the economic recession in full swing, the CE market sector has been suffering. However, it seems like Blu-ray players are selling quite well. According to an industry analyst, this holiday season may mark the first time consumers will see $50 Blu-ray players, which is a substantial milestone.

The Zune business has been a sinking ship for Microsoft. With revenue being dramatically down and sales slipping, it seemed like the company was about to call it quits on the MP3 business. However, despite reported layoffs and revenue drops Microsoft believes the Zune HD will turn everything around.

A market research firm claims there’s no prospect of Blu-ray drives becoming dominant on the PC in the foreseeable future. The firm claims that even by 2013, just one in six new machines will include a drive.

The Blu-ray adoption rate has been climbing quickly. However, the price of the medium won’t be dropping as fast. The new HD format has grown tremendously over the past year and it is clear that Blu-ray is the new format, but the question remains if it will ever cost the same as the DVD.

With the recession in full swing many analysts predicted that the Blu-ray format would take a huge hit. However, the latest numbers seem to indicate otherwise. The theory that the entertainment industry is immune to the recession might be holding true for the Blu-ray format, at least judging from the substantial growth just this year.

Blu-ray may have won the next-generation DVD format wars, but it’s only barely in more U.S. homes than HD-DVD and that’s thanks to the PS3. To make things worse for the DVD-player industry, three-quarters of people without Blu-ray say there’s little chance they’ll get a player any time soon.

The Blu-ray format’s adoption rate has been on the climb for the past two years after its battle with HD-DVD. The format has been quickly picking ups steam matching perditions that sales would double within this year. It also seems like the format is eating away at DVD sales as revenue has dropped while Blu-ray has exploded.
