Sony and Netflix recently announced that Netflix’s streaming Watch Instantly service would be coming to the PS3. The service is now here as Netflix is sending out discs to those interested in accessing the company’s instant streaming service. The service can be accessed for free on the PS3 with the Netflix disc and plan.

With the economic recession in full swing, the CE market sector has been suffering. However, it seems like Blu-ray players are selling quite well. According to an industry analyst, this holiday season may mark the first time consumers will see $50 Blu-ray players, which is a substantial milestone.

Most in-home streaming music devices work with the iPhone by means of a dock, making it impossible to do anything else while you’re jamming out. The Zoneplayer S5, on the other hand, has an iPhone app that turns your phone into a remote control.

The Barnes & Noble e-bookstore has been available for a number of portable devices for some time. Now, it is believed that the bookstore chain will soon unveil a hardware competitor to the Kindle.

It’s been a long time coming, but Adobe has announced that it’s bringing full Flash capabilities to handsets from RIM, Windows Mobile, Android and Palm. The only major smartphone being left behind the pack is the Apple iPhone.

Apple bought mapping API company called PlaceBase back in July that allows developers to embed maps in a site using JavaScript, though no one heard a peep about it. It sounds like Steve Jobs is looking to take a bite out of Google Maps.

It’s a little known fact that Europeans are incapable of looking after themselves and using common sense. So we have to have our hands held (or forcibly tied behind our backs) by the people in charge of the European Union. The latest hand-holding directive concerns iPods and other PMPs (Portable Media Players) and how loud they blast the music into our ears. They clearly need to carry health warnings to protect our fragile bodies.

The Zune business has been a sinking ship for Microsoft. With revenue being dramatically down and sales slipping, it seemed like the company was about to call it quits on the MP3 business. However, despite reported layoffs and revenue drops Microsoft believes the Zune HD will turn everything around.

Microsoft has been targeting the OS competition this year in order to prepare for the release of Windows 7. Mac and Linux have been coming under fire from Microsoft lately with a barrage of ad campaigns and patent schemes. After the leak of the Best Buy training material onto the Web recently, more information has been revealed indicating that Microsoft is bribing Best Buy employees with a little incentive to take the training.

Fire safety hazards with consumer electronics are becoming a serious issue with devices these days. In recent memory, stories of exploding batteries, laptops and iPhones have cropped up from time to time. In most cases it’s a situation of devices overheating and catching on fire. It seems like the Durabrand DVD players from Wal-Mart will be joining the ranks of combusting devices.
