Intel and Asus have teamed up for a crowd-sourcing project of sorts to give users a say in what they want in a laptop. The ultimate goal is to create the first community-designed PC.

Asustek announced it would be dropping prices on its already affordable Eee PC netbook range. By 2009, we could already be seeing $200 EeePCs.

Virgin Atlantic fired 13 cabin crew for what it called inappropriate behavior on Facebook. The airline said that their actions on the social networking site “brought the company into disrepute”.

Google has a voracious appetite for information of all kinds, and the world’s libraries contain a large quantity of human intelligence. But while Google was able to settle the class action lawsuits from authors and publishers, there are a fair number of restrictions built in to the agreement. Harvard wants no part of it until the agreement becomes more flexible.

Barack Obama has been hailed as the “technology candidate” since he first started campaigning. At first, he was second only to Ron Paul in the use of technology and social media to reach the masses. Now he has far surpassed any efforts Ron Paul and his supporters had made. If he moves from “technology candidate” to “technology president”, what could that mean for us?

In news that is symptomatic of today’s business and economic climate, Tesla Motors admitted that they were having financial issues and were in need of a quick cash infusion. The company announced that it had failed in a bid to raise $100 million, and would now try to raise at least $20 million to turn the company’s cash flow to the positive side.

Google may be on the verge of abandoning plans for an ad-sharing deal with Yahoo. It appears the search giant may be unwilling to accept regulator demands that the deal be kept under permanent review.

The UK has recently seen an upturn in the number of people being accused of illegal file-sharing, with computer games being the latest medium targeted alongside music and movies. The problem is, not all of the people accused have done anything wrong, and some of them haven’t got a clue what they’re being accused of.

Exxon Mobil, the largest U.S. oil company has reported a net income of $15 billion, surging past analyst estimates and highlighting the discrepancy between big business and the consumer. The company’s previous record was $12 billion in the second quarter of 2008. Exxon is now earning $1,865.69 per second.

Gmail Labs has been on a roll adding innovative and interesting features such as its Mail Goggles feature that curbs late-night, inebriated email use. Now you can also turn on a special feature and send SMS messages to friends right from Gmail’s built-in chat window.

The Beatles may not have existed a band for almost 40 years now, but their music is still in demand and still speaks to each new generation as if they own the music themselves. Unfortunately, due to peculiar legal battles and an unwillingness to embrace new technology, the Beatles’ back catalog has never been available in digital form. But a new video game may change this trend for good.

It seems like such a natural fit and it’s been a long time coming, but finally Tivo and Netflix are building a synergy between their two services. Tivo owners with a more recent version of hardware will be able to stream Netflix videos straight to their TV. Series2 Tivo owners will still need a $99 Roku box.

12Seconds, CurrentTV and FlixWagon are teaming up on Election Day 2008 to bring microblogging and citizen journalism to the political process. 12Seconds recently teamed up with the BBC and CurrentTV to get the content on the 12Seconds network out to the masses. This furthers that concept with a political slant, encouraging people to document their election Day 2008 experience.

Both Google and Microsoft have joined OpenID, a scheme to make using multiple Web sites less of a hassle. With Yahoo already on board, the scheme could reach the tipping point becoming a success – though there remain problems.

The Google phone isn’t even out yet and already smartphone software developers have applications ready to go. Yes, everyone knows that there will be a Google application center so that Google phone (G1) owners can quickly and easily find apps that they want to install. Some developers aren’t waiting for the app center to go live.

Yesterday afternoon, iPhone owners should have received a text message from AT&T alerting them to their new access to AT&T’s network of Wi-Fi hotspot. If this sounds familiar, it’s because some iPhone owners caught a glimpse back of the access in early May before it was quickly clamped shut again.
