This little tidbit comes from the bass-ackwards school of business where the customer is stupid and exploitable until proven otherwise. That said, Verizon didn’t get to get to be the largest wireless and wireline carrier in these oddly dysfunctional United States by knowing when to quit, so gird your loins Joe and Jane Sixpack — they will be back.

More 18,000 Likes and 11,000 Tweets for a media product not created by a big media company. The really, really cool thing about this story is the math underpinning it is easily understandable and, moreover, numbers of this size aren’t beyond what an average person can imagine. Is this enough to kill Universal, Warner or Sony? Probably not, but it’s good news nonetheless.

It’s been repeated ad naseum that Spotify isn’t iTunes. No one knows that better than the independent labels that increasingly dominate the creation and distribution of music. That said, pay forever music isn’t paying the bills for indies and provides little if any long term value for users.
