I’ve been searching some time for a device that will stream media on my television from my wireless network. The Sony SMP-N100 Network Media Player recently caught my eye as a serious contender. Given the awesome features promised, combined with the recent price drop, I simply couldn’t resist purchasing this device.

Researchers at the University of Southampton have come up with a new form of memory made from silica glass and using lasers to read and write on it. The researchers say that this will reduce the cost of medical imaging. Anything that reduces medical costs is wonderful.

According to Sony boss Andrew House, consumers will adopt 3D TV technology faster than the transition from analog to hi-def TVs. Sony is one of the major players in the 3D arena with TVs, films and video games all taking advantage of the technology.

YellowBird, located in The Netherlands, has developed technology that allows you to make videos that add new meaning to surround home theatre. Just like Google street views, you can scroll 360° within the video.

Last week, Nokia showed off their ‘Ubice’ or touchscreen made of ice in Saarbrucken, Germany at the Interactive Tabletops and Surfaces conference. The scientists at the Nokia Research Center in Tampere, Finland were showing off skill at utilizing novel interfaces for computing.

Microsoft recently announced that Netflix will be getting the ability to search movies on its Xbox 360 dashboard application. It appears that Sony’s PS3 will be topping that feature with 1080p and 5.1 surround sound.

Sony unveiled it’s high definition Google TV sets yesterday in New York. The televisions that will be incorporating Google’s Web-surfing system will be sold in Sony’s online store beginning this Saturday and are expected to hit Best Buy shelves next week.

There is little doubt in anyone’s mind that 3D is the future. There are visionaries that see a future where a 3D image will be projected straight into your living room. However, that day is not here as watching 3D TV will require glasses for the foreseeable future.
