Google’s Chairman called Siri a “competitive threat” to its search business. Of course, this comment was made to the U.S. Senate Antitrust Subcommittee but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a grain of truth in that statement along with a lot of hyperbole.

Always quotable and controversial, the Microsoft CEO set tongues wagging by saying his company was lucky Yahoo hadn’t agreed to its price back in 2008. Ouch, kind of sucks to be the once dominant search (and a lot of whatever) company. The thing is, if you go beyond the soundbite, Ballmer’s being perfectly sensible.

Or, if you prefer, “Mr. Schmidt’s paid FTC mouthpiece goes to Washington.” Yeah, that’s a brutal assessment, but what else do you call a person who was a farmer and has now become the fox, or at the very least, the fox’s paid representative? And, when I say paid I mean paid a lot more than when she was a farmer.

There is a serious possibility that AOL and Yahoo could do a deal which would see these two aging Web giants come together. But is one dying Web giant any better than two dying Web giants? I don’t see how.

HP has a new entry in its Photosmart series called the HP Photosmart eStation Printer. The printer is an all-in-one unit that has a detachable 7-inch full color touchscreen. The touchscreen “doubles as a wireless digital companion and control panel for remote printing.”

Three organizations have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission against Google and Yahoo’s use of consumer data. The complaint comes from the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (a national alliance of state consumer groups), the Center for Digital Democracy and the World Privacy Forum.
