Everybody hates patent trolls, but no one’s ever put a number on how much they cost innovators and society in general. Moreover, NPE or non-practicing entities — a new age acronym for scumbag — aren’t targeting innovation in general, they’re going after software companies that have created real products.

Internet regulator ICANN and ICM Registry are being sued in US District Court in Los Angeles over their handling of the recently launched .XXX domain. The case could have implications for the entire domain name system.

Apple has finally unveiled iTunes Match, at least in the U.S. But I can’t quite work out whether it’s a stroke of genius or an unnecessary hassle. As usual it depends on whether you’re a fanboy or not. They will love it, the rest of us won’t care.

It appears Facebook is close to agreeing a major settlement with the Federal Trade Commission that would overturn the most annoying part of its privacy policy: the way that it makes changes and then waits for users to put settings back to normal.

There are several reports today that a survey of teen internet users suggests overall, everything’s just dandy. The problem is this is based on a single vague and uninformative question, and the rest of the results show cyberbullying is at least as bad as you’d expect.
