First a call to the Dems to “wise up” and now the man who engineered the Contract With America is saying that Republicans should pay heed to their narrow victory in Ohio this week.
From the Washington Post comes Newt Gingrich:
“There is more energy today on the anti-Iraq, anti-gas-price, anti-changing-Social Security and I think anti-Washington [side],” he said. “I think the combination of those four are all redounding to weaken Republicans and help Democrats. . . . I don’t think this is time to panic, but I think it’s time to think. If we don’t think now, then next September , people will panic when it’s too late.”
Newt is a savvy political operator who is engineering his comeback as I type this. The GOP should pay attention and understand what this changing political landscape means if they want to remain relevant in the years to come.
2006 will be the test. Will they pass?
