I, Montag, have been burning the candle at both ends against the middle [sic] since I became a contributor here at Donklephant. Out in “Meatspace” I carry on two jobs. Not to barely make ends meet — I am not claiming ‘poverty’ — but to do the American dream: have and maintain a home, save for the kids to go to college, eventually have some kind of retirement, stuff like that. I realize there are other ways to do this, but I blame my father for setting the example that you work to earn money, and of taking on ‘side jobs’ to do so.

Really, I work to provide for my family. And away from work I devote as much time to them as possible. My calling is not — and hopefully my legacy will not be — ‘helluva worker’ or ‘that blogger guy’ but rather ‘family man.’ (Imagine a slightly more competent Homer Simpson.)

Anyway, there are tensions between these three poles (family, work, and Donklephant) the result of which is stress, the result of which is that I do not feel that I can continue on at my current rate of posting; (usually) three to four times a day. I already feel like I have been delinquent in my contributing to the comments section as much as I wish I could. There, quite simply, isn’t enough time in the day.

I’ll continue to contribute here with weekend posts. They will hopefully be of a higher caliber than what I have been mass-producing during the weeks so far. I’ll leave that judgment to you, kind reader.

Justin will be looking to replace my output and keep roughly the same posting schedule going. I usually post throughout the morning, and as I said before, three to four posts a day. It’s been a challenge for me, but I am somewhat of a slow reader, and I admit I spend too much time re-reading and re-writing my posts. A quicker study might find the schedule quite manageable. WordPress (our blogging software) is very user friendly and allows one to schedule when posts are posted to the site, so you would not be restricted to morning only in composing your posts. Anyone interested in contributing, should email Justin (click it, or look for the blurb about contributors in the right hand column.)

I hope this site continues to grow and be successful, as I think the idea behind it is a worthy one. Our political system could use more reasoned and respectful debate amongst the proletariat and we should demand the same of our leaders.

This is a case where literally, “I want need to spend more time with my family.”
