I don’t hate many things, but if there’s one thing I absolutely can not stand it’s Republicans saying that electing Democrats in the fall will lead to more terrorist attacks.
With the election of more Dems is it more likely that taxes will be raised? Sure. But terrorist attacks? WTF?
This time Orrin Hatch provides the partisan hackery:
Sen. Orrin Hatch, who continuously decries the bitter partisanship in Washington, implied this week that Democratic success in November’s election could result in terrorist attacks on America.
Hatch was quoted in Tuesday’s Tooele Transcript Bulletin as saying Middle East terrorists are “waiting for the Democrats here to take control, let things cool off and then strike again.”
So let’s see. Since 9/11, the vast majority of Democratic lawmakers have gone along with every single security request Bush has asked for lockstep. And to that point, a large portion of the Dems’ base is angry with them because of it. This is just a set up job, pure and simple. Hatch talks about it being the responsibility of the Dems, a terrorist attack happens and he says, “See, I told you so. Vote Republican next time!”
What is particularly troubling about Hatch’s remarks is that it he has to know what he’s saying is utter nonsense. He knows damn well who calls the shots when it comes to our security. That responsibility is the President’s and it falls squarely on his shoulders.
However, this isn’t the first time Hatch has tried to set up the Dems just in case we had a terrorist attack on our soil. Flashback time…ready? Okay.
During the 2004 presidential election, Hatch suggested al-Qaida members wanted Democratic challenger John Kerry to defeat President Bush.
Terrorists “are going to throw everything they can between now and the election to try and elect Kerry,” Hatch said in a Washington Post story printed in September 2004.
What a hack. Again…grrrrrr.
