Finally, somebody official is telling Tom to get his head checked.
From CNN, first let’s recount exactly what he said…
“If it is up to me, we are going to explain that an attack on this homeland of that nature would be followed by an attack on the holy sites in Mecca and Medina,†Tancredo said. “That is the only thing I can think of that might deter somebody from doing what they would otherwise do. If I am wrong, fine, tell me, and I would be happy to do something else. But you had better find a deterrent, or you will find an attack.â€
Yeah, let’s turn the ENTIRE world against us and essentially declare a holy war against Islam. Good one Tom. That’s a well thought out strategy.
We had a decent strategy post 9/11 when we targeted Afghanistan. At the time we were saying that if you harbor terrorists who take responsibility for specific attacks, then we’re going to come in there and get them. But we didn’t follow through. Does that mean the strategy isn’t valid? Of course not, but I think we’re going to need a new administration in there to give it back some credibility.
In any event, somebody from the State department called Tom out on his nonsensical strategy…
Tom Casey, a deputy spokesman for the State Department, told CNN’s Elise Labott that the congressman’s comments were “reprehensible†and “absolutely crazy.â€
Can I add “remarkably stupid” to that?
