Regardless of the immeasurable effect on Obama’s chances, Winfrey’s political debut was good for her. Already a cultural icon, she took a major step toward being taken seriously as a political figure.

If anybody could do it, she could. But she’d have to run outside of the political system. That way she wouldn’t have to worry about primaries, etc. She could deliver her message straight to the people on her own terms.
