Ron Paul IN Fox's New Hampshire Debate
Yep. He’s in and he always has been.
The Boston Globe got caught up in it, as did I. But frankly, Paul should have checked his sources before he said Fox News was scared of him. Sure, I should have checked too, but I’m not running for President..
There is NO NH DEBATE on January 6th. Ron Paul was NOT EXCLUDED. That event was canceled three weeks ago.
Ron WILL participate in the January 5th ABC/WMUR GOP debate in New Hampshire.
So, what happened?
To find out, click over. It’s apparently all just a misunderstanding, but there is a forum on January 6th which some people claim Paul isn’t invited to. Frankly, I don’t care anymore to sort it out because I doubt there’s really any story here. Time to move on.
That Nolan Chart article has now retracted its story and added stuff and added more stuff, and the waters are so muddy over there you can barely see anything.
Here’s what we don know…Paul hasn’t been invited to the forum on January 6th…yet. But let’s be clear here, it’s a closed forum with no studio audience and only Chris Wallace asking the questions.
And note to all of you commenters…I think all of them should be included, but that’s not my call, and frankly, if they have a debate the day before, Paul not being on Fox News at that time doesn’t seem like a big deal. But if you think it is, then try and get him on there. It’s what you all do best.
Fergus Cullen, chairman of the New Hampshire State Republican Committee, confirmed Sunday evening to the Tribune that, yes, there will be a televised Fox News presidential candidate forum on Jan. 6, and yes, Rep. Ron Paul was not invited when the other candidates were a week or so ago. […]
Cullen said the event, which is set to take place two days before the New Hampshire primary, will be held in the afternoon or evening at St. Anselm College in Goffstown, N.H. When asked if Fox News, which is co-sponsoring the debate with the NH party, planned to invite Paul later, Cullen said he didn’t know.
“It’s really premature. Just the other day candidates started to accept invitations.”
So, once more, do I think there’s a story here? Not really. Again, I point to the forum on faith and politics that CNN held with just Edwards, Hillary and Obama as an example of something that was much more like a debate, but still had a limited amount of candidates. News organizations do this. If you go by the logic that Fox is somehow scared of Ron Paul, they must also be scared of Duncan Hunter too. And CNN must be scared of Richardson, Biden, Dodd, Gravel and Kucinich.
Also, I think Paul put out a press release prematurely, called the network “propagandists” and has now handed Fox News a couple good reasons to say no to their request to be included in a more intimate forum. That’s just the long and short of it. You can post a thousand comments on a thousand different blog posts, but it still doesn’t change the fact that your candidate didn’t handle this situation with grace.
Have a good new year’s eve.
