Bloomberg And Unity08 Sitting In A Tree…

7

Well, that’s the rumor at least…

From NY Daily News:

A source familiar with the Bloomberg for president movement says the bipartisan Unity08 effort is poised to shut down its Web site, reconstitute as a Draft Bloomberg site and launch its own 50-state signature-gathering operation on behalf of the supposedly reluctant would-be independent presidential candidate.

This move has been apparently been approved by the Bloomberg people.

Shut down its website? Huh…

Unfortunately, this move has all the makings of a hammer looking for a nail to hit. Because if Unity 08 doesn’t organize a 3rd party, bi-partisan ticket, all of their work will be for naught. But how can Bloomberg credibly run a campaign if somebody like Obama or McCain get the nomination? Sure, the contests are far from being decided, but what would make Bloomberg run? Hillary and Romney? Hillary and Giuliani? Edwards and Romney? What combination would make the 3rd party machine start up?

But I didn’t know that Bloomberg was already starting to spend money to poll in all 50 states…

That comment comes amid reports that Bloomberg has invested part of [his] personal fortune to poll in all 50 states AND as the mayor’s pollster, Doug Schoen is suddenly giving a lot of interviews (just as his new book laying out a roadmap for an independent presidential candidacy is scheduled to come out) and saying Bloomberg will decide in March on whether to get in the race.

Interesting…
