Well, I guess this will be the theme this Fall. First, McCain’s team ties Hamas to Obama because they said they wouldn’t mind dealing with him (in a fundraising email no less) and now the candidate himself is saying that Ayers remains an “open question” and he wonders if Obama would condemn Ayers actions.
The presumptive Republican nominee raised the issue himself during an interview on ABC’s This Week, in response to a question from host George Stephanopoulos about whether he believes Obama is as patriotic as he is.
“I’m sure he’s very patriotic. But his relationship with Mr. Ayers is open to question,†said McCain.
“He became friends with him and spent time with him while the guy was unrepentant over his activities as a member of a terrorist organization, the Weathermen,†said the Arizona senator.
“Does he condemn them? Would he condemn someone who that says they’re unrepentant and wished that they had bombed more?â€
Now folks, I don’t know about you, but does anybody really buy that McCain actually wonders if Obama condemns the Weathermen’s acts? Come on…
And do note that part in the story where McCain raised this issue himself. He wasn’t asked by Stephanopoulos.
But again, if this is what they’re going to be throwing at Obama, if they’re going to try to suggest that he’s somehow cool with terrorism, well, that’s a bit of a head scratcher. As if swing voters will think Obama is okay with terrorism? When he has stated from day one that the reason we shouldn’t have gone into Iraq is because we took our eye off al Qaeda?
More as it develops…
