Well, now we know that Obama actually asked her…

“There was a serious discussion to determine whether, if offered Secretary of State, she would accept it,” said a source close to the Obama transition.

In these circumstances, that source added, a president-elect does not meet with potential cabinet secretaries unless they are serious about making an offer.

Another source close to the Obama transition team told CNN, “this (asking Clinton to be Secretary of State) has been of great interest to Obama for awhile. You’ve got to assume that Hillary Clinton did not come to visit the city of Chicago.”

We also know that people close to her are hinting that she’s inclined to take it, especially since she simply won’t be line for the Senate majority leader any time soon and the more senior Senator Max Baucus has recently taken the health care issue on as his own…

A person close to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton says she would seriously consider serving as secretary of state if an offer was made — adding, “I wouldn’t bet against” her accepting a Cabinet invitation.

Andrea Mitchell, Roger Simon and Chris Matthews discuss…

Personally, I think it’s a great move and it would be perfect fit for Hillary…and Bill.

And, by the way, is the Secretary of State position better than the VP position? Sure, it’s not next in line to be the President, but SoS gets to actually DO things, while the VP really doesn’t have a lot of responsibilities.
