Will.i.am Hits Campaign Trail with VA Gubernatorial Candidate
Hip-hop star (and co-star of this weekend’s number one box office draw, Wolverine), will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, will make four campaign appearances with Virginia Democrat Terry McAuliffe next week in a bid to boost support for the gubernatorial candidate before the June 9th primary.
Though the rapper (otherwise known as William Adams) is a California native, that hasn’t stopped McAuliffe from trying to pick up where the Black Eyed Pea left off with President Barack Obama during the last election cycle. Will.i.am’s four-minute, pro-Obama YouTube video, “Yes We Can,†gave the performer instant political cred after it garnered more than 18 million page views during last year’s presidential race and became an internet phenomenon. For McAuliffe’s part, he’s not only courting the pop culture demographic; last week, he enlisted former President Bill Clinton for rallies in Richmond and Roanoke.
The unlikely duo will appear together next Monday, May 11th, in Portsmouth, Hampton, Richmond and Arlington. Here’s the schedule:
