The Bullpen, a new bar, restaurant and live music venue, will open directly across from Nationals Park at N and Half Streets, SE on Friday, May 15th (that’s the date of the their match-up with the Phillies, for all you Nats faithfuls out there). According to the Capitol Riverfront BID, the new destination will be open for at least “2 hours before and after every home game†and offer food from Rockland’s Barbeque, Surfside and Armand’s Pizza among outdoor seating and a 15,000 square foot “festival area.†There is also talk of the Bullpen hosting concerts and a Sunday morning Farmer’s Market, even when the Washington Nationals aren’t swatting up it across the street.
The Bullpen also has a new neighbor in Molly Malone’s Irish Pub in nearby Barrack’s Row at 713 8th Street, SE. Formerly known as Finn MacCool’s, owner Xavier Cervera has completely overhauled the bar’s interior and is making the pub a new pre and post-Nationals game celebration spot by offering free shuttle service to and from the ballpark (in golf carts no less). The shuttles will begin service two hours before game time, run continuously for all nine innings and up to 45 minutes afterwards. It will also deliver patrons to stops of the DC Circulator bus that connects with Union Station. Molly Malone’s is open daily and also hosts a Sunday brunch.
