brokensocialsceneCanadian indie rockers Broken Social Scene are currently recording their fourth album here in Chicago at Soma Electronic Music Studio, as reported by Pitchfork yesterday.

Leader Kevin Drew posted on the Broken Social Scene blog that they are happy to start recording their first record in four years, and are currently working with John McEntire, member of post-rock Chicago powerhouse Tortoise and The Sea and Cake.

Drew also wrote “I can’t tell you what this record will sound like, who from the other great bands will be involved, but I can tell you it feels amazing to be in Chicago recording.”

It’s nice to see the band, known for their large scale and awe-inspiring live shows, recording a new album, especially here in Chicago.

Keep an eye out for band members around town to get your Canadian indie rock fix as well. Rumor is some of the band attended local mash-up DJ outfit The Hood Internet’s show last night at The Hideout.
