It’s that time of year. No, I don’t mean trees budding, flowers blooming, sunshine and baseball – I mean spring cleaning. I spent the weekend cleaning nooks and crannies I only want to see a couple of times per year in a tradition as old as… well, I don’t know how old it is, but my mother instilled the habit and I can’t break it. I’m not the only one though, and on May 30 the entire city is invited to help clean up Pioneer Square.
“It’s no secret that Pioneer Square’s public spaces could use a little tender loving care. On Saturday, May 30th individual volunteers and volunteer teams from community-oriented companies are going to take action to clean up our neighborhood’s most prominent public spaces. Last year, over 50 volunteers showed up to help, and this year we expect an even bigger turnout!”

Volunteers will meet at Occidental Square Park at 9:30 am for breakfast and to be split into teams. Cleanup runs from 10:00 am to noon and a free picnic will be held in Occidental Park at noon. There will be “live music, good and (free) food, and other entertainment, including a bocce tournament!”
