Best Chicago Summer Festivals

Do Division

Us Chicagoans love a good festival. We put up with enough winter weather, that once the sun comes out and spring is in the air, we move to the outdoors. And being a true city of neighborhoods, every area of Chicago has a local neighborhood festival. You don’t have to be from the hood to join in on the fun, and CultureMob will be your guide to some of the best upcoming festivals this summer in Chicago.

Today we’ll take a look at the upcoming Wicker Park/ Bucktown festival, Do Division Street Fest. Happening Saturday May 30th and Sunday May 31st, Do Division spans 10 city blocks, on Division Street from Ashland to Leavitt. Do Division Fest brings together local vendors featuring sidewalk sales, music presented by purveyors of cool, The Empty Bottle, and food from local businesses, as well as ice cold beer from sponsors Pabst Blue Ribbon. And this year marks the addition of Family Fun Fest, a whole area dedicated to the entire family, a welcome addition as many baby strollers are popping up along Division Street with young urbanites settling down.

To me the big draw (and completely worth the $5 admission) is the stellar music acts that The Empty Bottle has booked this year. Geared more toward the indie rock palate, both days provide a solid bill of music. Headlining Saturday night is hometown DJ heroes Flosstradamus, sure to provide a bumping dance party to end the night. Sunday offers up back-to-back sets by White Rabbits, a rollicking rock band who’s debut album Fort Nightly showcased a tight and catchy act who are sure to put on a good live show. Closing out the night is Menomena, who provided a memorable set of slightly gothic tinged and rich layered tunes a few years back at Pitchfork Music Festival.

Do Division Fest is May 30-May 31st, and goes all day from noon till 10pm. Entry is $5. Food and beverage abounds, as well as live music, so come for some lunch, browse and shop the local merchants, and stay to rock late into the night.
