2003 was the last time The Pretenders toured, but six years later they finally hit the road for a new North American tour. That isn’t exactly new news – it hit the ‘net months ago, but the fact that they are making a stop in Seattle is so new that the band’s official website doesn’t even list us yet. It’s so new that tickets haven’t even officially gone on sale. In fact, as I write this, the presale hasn’t even started.

All that changes tomorrow morning. That’s Friday, May 29 at 10 am for those of you who, like me, have a hard time keeping track of the days. And that’s when the presale for The Pretenders begins. It ends at 10 pm that night. Click on this link to Live Nation and use the password: live.

Included in the lineup is Cat Power and the possibility of an appearance by Juliette Lewis. The concert is being held in Marymoor Park in Redmond at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 27.

The Pretenders released a new album in October 2008, Break Up the Concrete, which garnered favorable reviews. Personally, I love the new rockabilly inspired tunes delivered by Chrissie Hynde’s utterly distinctive and timeless voice, and in case you’re wondering what I want for my birthday in a month, this CD will do nicely. Yes, I know it’s been 7 months since the album was released and I’ve had plenty of time to buy it. Good things come to those who wait. Digression aside, it’s been reported that concerts that have already been given so far on the tour are a good mix of old and new Pretenders songs. Good enough for me.

Tickets officially go on sale to the public Saturday, May 29 at 10:00 am.
