Washington, DC’s best summer arts festival, Artomatic, is back and celebrating its tenth anniversary in style. Located next to Nationals Park at 55 M Street, SE on the Capitol Riverfront, the free festival kicks off today, May 29th, and CultureMob DC has a sneak peek at this year’s line-up.
Sporting nine-stories worth of exhibits from fifteen hundred DC-area artists, everything from painting, sculpture, dance, drama, tattooing, performance art and DJing will be on display. On top of that, they’ll be live bands, film screenings and a slew of vendors – including Flying Dog Brewery, Barefoot Wines and Bubbly, Red Bull, Honest Tea, On the Fly, Busboys and Poets, Micha’s Sorbet, Hard Times Café and Cake Love.
Attendance is supposed to surpass 70,000 this year, so get in early and stay late (this is sure to be DC’s best late night party). Tonight’s gala grand opening will begin around 8 pm and feature fire dancers and twenty-four bands and performances, along with little things like robot portraits, a bondage dungeon and a peep show (don’t worry…there’s more than enough high-brow fare to go around, too).
If all this seems overwhelming to any Artomatic virgins out there, here’s a convenient breakdown of what’s what and where:
