Do you really want to spend a sunny, warm weekend at the Pike Place Market crawling through hordes of tourists and shoppers? When it’s the Street Festival weekend you do. Nothing like a festival to make crowds tolerable. Besides, what were you going to do, sit at home?
Every year the Pike Place Market throws a big ‘ole party complete with lots of food, live music, a parade, a beer and wine garden, and of course the “Strut Your Mutt Dog Contest and Parade.” That happens at 10:00 am on Sunday in Steinbrueck Park. You can enter your pooch for $5 and there will be prizes.
The parade that kicks off the whole street festival starts at 10:00 am on Saturday, winding its way down Pike Place and “featuring local drill teams, including the Sweet Mahogany Drill Team.”
A Kids Zone will be set up in Steinbrueck Park with plenty of activities to keep youngsters happy and engaged. The Pike Brewing Company Beer and Wine Garden should do the same for adults. The Pike Brewing Main Stage will offer several local musical acts. At noon on Saturday the Seattle Seahawks Blue Thunder Drumline will liven things up.
Be sure to drop by the Market Foundation Booth. They do important work with kids and seniors and you can show your support by designing a bookmark or a piggybank. They will also have “a ‘Wish List’ of essential items vital to each of the Market’s human service agencies for you to ‘purchase.’”
The Pike Place Market Foundation claims that the Street Festival is their way of saying “thank you for your support” to Seattleites, but by attending you’ll be saying “thank you for being here” to the Pike Place Market. It’s the perfect mutual admiration society. Go. Admire.
