Pride weekend kick-off parties in Washington, DC
Get ready, Washington….here come the homosexuals. (Not that there’s anything wrong that.) That’s right, Capital Pride Weekend is here again.
Nellie’s Sports Bar at 900 U Street, NW, just around the corner from the DC9 and the Velvet Lounge, is kicking off this year’s festivities on Thursday with a live concert from a cadre of out-of-towners up in town to salute the capital’s LGBT community: Tom Goss, Michelle Raymond, Ben Lerman and DC’s own Thomasina and the Jam.
Warming up at 8 pm, the show is completely free and patrons will also be afforded access to Nellie’s usual perks, like Beat the Clock Happy Hour and omnipresent television sets that’ll surely be broadcasting the evening’s Nats versus Reds match-up. Plus, they have one of U Street’s only roof decks.
The night’s affairs, however, are merely prologue to Pride Parade on Saturday, June 13th through Dupont Circle and the Pride Festival, hosted by none other than RuPaul, on Sunday, June 14th “on Pennsylvania Avenue in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol.†For more info, check out: http://www.capitalpride.org/
And people say DC is boring.
