Bryant Park Summer Film Festival 2009, Mondays, Free

I am sitting here in Bryant Park. It looks as if it is about to rain in four minutes, so I should not be doing this, but I’m using free public WiFi outdoors in midtown Manhattan, surrounded by trees — how many people can say that? Anyway. In front of me is this enormous movie screen where they are going to start showing great old movies (mostly from the 1970’s) for free every Monday this summer, starting on June 15th.
Here’s the schedule:
June 15 – The Sting
June 22 – Breaking Away
June 29 – Gold Diggers of 1933
July 6 – Dog Day Afternoon
July 13 – How Green Was My Valley
July 20 – Harold and Maude
July 27 – The Defiant Ones
August 3 – Kramer vs. Kramer
August 10 – The Magnificent Seven
August 17 – Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Check out details on The HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival 2009 on the Bryant Park Web site, which includes a schedule of other summer activities in the park including “Classes in the Park” and “Birds in the Park” but it’s really getting dark here and chilly and the wind is whipping up, so I’ll tell you about them later.
My favorite line on the sign announcing the Monday night movie series: “Lawn opens at 5 p.m.”
